NEW FOR 2019 Season

  1. DO NOT TOUCH WHALE SHARKS
  2. It is NOT GUARANTEED to see Whale Sharks.  It is better odds by the 3rd week of June usually, by July we are FULL of whale sharks!!  We do our best to respect the animals and if their are 5 or less whale sharks we can only observe the whale sharks from the boat. This is in an effort to keep these beauties safe and not harassed by tourists.
  3. Life Jackets are MANDATORY!!  Previous year we would rent wetsuits and allow others to free dive.  There have been too many incidents of people trying to swim under the Whale Shark and ran to in to the big fish.  We only want to observe these amazing creatures not to touch them. The oils from our skin can cause sores on them. You can still wear your own wetsuit (not needed) but you will need to use a life jacket.
  4. No SUN BLOCK!! Wear long sleeves or a rash guard.  Rash guard is a thin material shirt that many people use while swimming and snorkeling. The oils from these are not good for the Whale Shark nor are they good for the ocean in general. For time in the sun be sure to bring hats and such.  If you MUST wear sunblock please bring the organic kind. All others are not allowed.

***You can be allowed to wear a wetsuit only if you can prove you are free dive or skin dive certified.  The Whale Sharks are surface eaters so it is not necessary to dive down to see them***

    • Please make sure to put trash in garbage bin, when available place recyclable items in proper places.

As soon as Trisha and my husband began conversing, snorkeling with whale sharks came up and she made us a deal that if we booked 20 tours through her then should would get us 2 free trips! We were way too eager to wait until we had 20 tours so we went a day or two later but she will make deals with you if you come in large groups. The tour was $120 per person (w/o transportation) vs $175 per person (with transportation). We had a group of 4 and we shared a cab that costed $66 total round trip, as a group we saved $154 ($38.50 per person).
She texts you the address you need to meet your tour guides and we met them there no problemo. 7:45AM be at the dock. They offered juice, coffee and some food before hopping on the boat that took an hour and 20 ish minutes to reach the whale sharks. Take motion sickness meds even if you think you can stomach it, trust me. So there are a butt load of boats already there and people are swimming their hearts out to keep up with these big guys and everyone is having a blast. You put on your provided flippers, mask and snorkel, sit on the edge of the boat and jump off almost right in front of them. It was nerve wrecking at the first jump but you forget about everything once you’re in the water and swimming along side these beautiful creatures. DO NOT TOUCH THEM even when you see others doing it. It removes a layer of their skin and they get soars so don’t do it!! We dove twice each couple and they took us to Isla Mujeres (Island of the women) for a super cool golf cart tour around the island and lunch (beer included). This was my favorite excursion I have ever done in Mexico and this is my third visit, I could not encourage you to do this more!

Once in a lifetime experience!!!!! A must do if you are visiting Cancun, swimming with these 50 ft whale sharks in open water was incredible! Trish is an amazing and kind person who helped get us a great deal and also personally helps back with the community. Our stay at the Jade Rivera was outstanding and Trish made our experience unforgettable with the excursions. We’ll be back!!!
